Dinosaur World Tampa Florida

Dinosaur World Tampa Florida

On a recent trip to Tampa we visited Dinosaur World. Dinosaur World is a small theme amusement park in Plant City, Florida. It is a great uncrowded place to take young children.

When we arrived at Dinosaur World, it was raining. It rains a lot in Florida, so we should have been smart enough to bring umbrellas since most of this park is outdoors. We didn’t have umbrellas. As a pleasant surprise, the gift shop happened to sell umbrellas for only $4 each. We thought that was a great deal.

At around $20 per adult, the entrance fee is a bit expensive for what they have, but much less expensive than many other Tampa or Orlando attractions. There is no charge for children under 3. If you have a dinosaur lover, it is definitely worth a visit. If your kids are not into dinosaurs, you might be better off visiting a free park with a playground.

There are picnic tables available where you can eat your own picnic lunch. Make sure to bring it with you since there is no food for sale here at Dinosaur World Tampa.

There are also a couple of different playground areas near the covered picnic areas where the kids can climb around while the adults take a break. These covered picnic areas were pretty empty on the Thursday we visited Dinosaur World Tampa Florida.

I am not sure how busy it is on weekends, but this would be the perfect frugal and fun venue for a kids birthday party. Bring your own food, cake, and party favors, saving a lot of money. The kids will have a blast!

Most of the park consists of a long walking path where you can wander among life sized dinosaurs in a natural setting. Much of the path is in the shade of the trees. The path does have rails on the side, so small children are able to walk, or run as they often like to do, on their own.

Along the path is a covered sandy area where kids can pretend to uncover dinosaur bones. Our grandson enjoyed getting himself all sandy, of course. There are also some other exhibits and activities that were currently closed, most likely due to the pandemic.

This was a safe outdoor venue that wasn’t crowded on the day we visited. There was plenty of space for social distancing. Everything was outdoors, except for a small walk through museum with fossils and other items.

We purchased “fish food” for one dollar to feed the fish that were in the stream. However, the fish were very difficult to see in the murky water. There may have been a better feeding area, but we were not able to find it. I ended up leaving most of the bag of fish food for some other kid to hopefully find and enjoy feeding the fish with.

The gift shop is very large and has an array of dinosaur themed items. Though we didn’t purchase anything beyond our umbrellas, we enjoyed browsing around. The prices were reasonable, and they had some unique items. If you have kids who love dinosaurs, or want to decorate their room with a dinosaur theme, you are sure to find some cute dinosaur decor here. Everything from wall hangings to lamps.

One important thing to note, is that it is free to enter the gift shop and browse around. Maybe you don’t want to pay the entrance fee to the park, but you want some dinosaur themed decorations, toys, or books for your kids or grandkids. This is the perfect place to visit for that. Parking is free also. If the kids are with you, keep them in the stroller or hold on to them, as there are many fragile items in the store as well as merchandise for kids.

Dinosaur World Tampa Florida is a lower priced amusement park area that is very relaxed. We recommend visiting if you are in the area and have dinosaur loving children. If your kids aren’t dinosaur lovers, it may be better to skip this park and go somewhere that is free instead.
